Two-way audio CCTV

See the event. Speak through the camera.

Compatible cameras let you listen during live view and speak through an onboard speaker using the app. Performance depends on the selected camera, internet connection and surrounding noise.

How it works

A conversation between your phone and camera.

Open the compatible app, select the live camera and use the talk control. Your phone sends your voice to the camera speaker while the camera microphone provides live sound.

  • The camera must include a suitable microphone and speaker.
  • Your recorder, app and network must support the function.
  • A small delay can occur because the sound travels over the internet.

Practical uses

Useful when a notification needs a response.

Two-way audio adds communication to the live view. It does not replace sensible security measures or guarantee that a person will respond.

01

Speak to visitors

Ask who is there or give a short instruction without opening the door, when the camera position and live connection are suitable.

02

Guide a delivery

Speak to a delivery driver while watching live. Whether a parcel can be left safely remains your decision and the driver's responsibility.

03

Address unexpected activity

Let someone know that you can see them. This may discourage unwanted behaviour, but no camera feature can guarantee deterrence.

04

Communicate at home

Use an appropriately positioned camera to speak with family on your private property, with the knowledge and privacy of household members in mind.

Use audio responsibly

Speaking live and recording audio are not the same thing.

Live two-way talk may be used without storing every conversation, depending on the selected system and settings. Continuous audio recording is more intrusive and should not be switched on by default without a clear, justified need.

Limit the viewKeep cameras within your property boundary where possible and capture only what you need.
Choose audio settings deliberatelyWe can explain the available settings; your use must suit the location and purpose.
Make people awareUse suitable signage and consider the privacy of visitors, neighbours and household members.
What affects performance

Good audio depends on the whole setup.

The word “two-way” describes the function, not a promise of telephone-quality sound in every situation.

01

Camera hardware

Microphone sensitivity, speaker output and camera design affect what both sides hear.

02

Network latency

Upload speed, mobile signal and congestion can introduce a delay or interrupted sound.

03

Camera position

Height, distance, wind, traffic and reflective surfaces can change sound quality.

04

Phone settings

The app needs the correct microphone, speaker and notification permissions to operate.

Common questions

Before choosing two-way audio CCTV.

The installation review confirms compatibility, camera positions, settings and the final quotation.

Does every CCTV camera have two-way audio?

No. The camera needs a compatible microphone and speaker, and the recorder or app must support the function. The final quotation will identify the included cameras and features.

Is the conversation instant?

A short delay can occur because the sound travels through the camera, network, app and mobile connection. Connection quality affects the experience.

Does the camera record audio continuously?

Do not assume it does. Recording behaviour depends on the equipment and settings. Audio recording is more intrusive, so it should be configured deliberately and used only where appropriate.

Can I speak to delivery drivers?

Yes, when you receive the alert, have a suitable live connection and the person is within range of the speaker. It cannot guarantee that a parcel will be left or remain secure.

Will speaking through a camera deter an intruder?

It may make a person aware that the property is monitored, but behaviour cannot be predicted and deterrence is not guaranteed.

Are there privacy rules for CCTV audio?

Yes. Audio is more intrusive than video alone. If your system captures people beyond your property boundary, data protection rules may apply. Check current ICO guidance for your circumstances.

Is the online price the final quotation?

No. It is a guide price. We confirm the equipment, connectivity, access, cable routes and any non-standard work before issuing the final quotation.
